The number of fat cells is constant in adult human body. Number of fat cells does not increase after adolescence, but volume of fat cells may increase resulting in weight gain. Eating habits and way of life are the most important factors in weight gain or loss. Regular life style, proper diet and exercise are required to get rid of excess weight. However, even in those who accomplish these conditions can not loose stubborn fat cells. Abdomen, waist, hips, inner and outer side of thighs and knees are the areas of the human body which are fat accumulation regions resistant to diet and exercise. Diet and exercise are effective to a certain extent in these areas. Doing excessive exercise and diet can cause disruption of the body’s overall metabolism rather than thinning in these regions.
Liposuction is the most frequently performed cosmetic surgery in the world as well is in Turkey by Longevita partner plastic surgeons. It is a simple procedure that improves the shape of patient’s body by removing unwanted or excess fat cells. The procedure is performed by inserting a wand attached to a medical vacuum machine into areas of the body through a small incision.
Before and After Gallery
My best friend and I contacted Longevita asking for fat removal as we wanted to get back into shape after having her babies. After our initial contact, we were asked to send pictures. In two days, Longevita provided us with customized treatment plans. When we checked the plans, we were very happy to notice that we were actually provided tailor made treatment plans unique for us suggested by their specialists. It was quite important to see that each of us was given individual attention by the doctors rather than a standard plan given to all the patients.
J.S., Liposuction Patient
From the moment we stepped off the plane, we were taken care of by various Longevita reps, from meeting us at the airport, making sure we were settled in the hotel ok, being prompt and friendly for all appointments and making sure we understood all what was going on around us. The staff and surgeon at the clinic/hospital were all helpful and friendly. Would just like to say thank you for making what could potentially have been quite a daunting experience, into one that was stress free and very relaxed and professional.

What is Liposuction Surgery?
Liposuction is a medical procedure that removes fat cells from the body using a special vacuum or injectors. Liposuction is not a weight loss surgery; it is a body contour correction surgery. Enlarged fat cells which are resistant to diet and exercise are moved away from the body with this technique. Any areas with fatty deposits can be targeted by liposuction. The most common areas are the abdomen, hips, thighs, upper arms, neck and legs. Liposuction removes the fat located on the depth of the body whereas thanks to new technique called liposculpture developed in the last 10 years, can remove the fats which cause contour irregularity. Liposculpture technique is also used for treating skin sagging and removal and destruction of stubborn cellulite. As long as the aim of the surgery is not weight loss but contour correction, there is not any risk of surgery.
Several different techniques exist for performing liposuction. Two of the different techniques are described below:
a) Tumescent Liposuction: This technique calls for the surgeon to inject a solution into the fatty areas before the canula is inserted. The injection contains a mixture of saline solution, a local anaesthetic and a medication that contracts blood vessels. The injection has several purposes. It loosens the fat, it reduces blood loss and bruising as well as anesthetizes the area.
b) Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction: In this technique, a special canula is used that has an ultrasound generator attached to it. The ultrasonic waves liquify the fat cells, making them easier to remove. This method allows for more detailed body sculpturing and a quicker recovery time. Trauma is minimized with the result of less bruising and blood loss.
How it is Performed
Liposuction usually takes one to four hours to perform, depending on the areas treated. It is usually done on an outpatient basis, but an overnight hospital stay may be recommended in some situations.
Depending on patient’s condition, Longevita partner surgeon will apply intravenous sedation or general anaesthesia. Liposuction is performed through small, inconspicuous cuts. First, sterile liquid solution is injected in order to reduce bleeding and trauma. Then a thin hollow tube, or cannula, is inserted via these cuts to loosen excess fat using controlled back and forth movements. The dislodged fat is then suctioned out of the body using a surgical vacuum or syringe attached to the cannula.
After liposuction surgery, compression garments or elastic bandages may be used to cover treatment areas. These help control swelling after liposuction and compress the skin to new body contours. In addition, small temporary drains may be placed in existing incisions underneath the skin as to remove any excess blood or fluid.
Recovery time varies by individual and the amount of fat removed from the body. It also depends on the technique used to perform the liposuction. Most people are able to return to work within a few days and can fully resume their usual lifestyle in two to three weeks. The results of the liposuction surgery can be seen right after the surgery. With constant healthy diet and fitness, the loss of excess fat tissue can be permanently maintained. Yet, substantial weight gain can change an otherwise permanent result.
The patient may be surprised with the limited amount of extraction per liposuction session and the importance of getting out just the right amount to be safe. There is limit to the liposuction sessions that a patient may have.
Liposuction is a surgical procedure, and all surgical procedures inherently have an element of risk. Some complications that may be caused by liposuction include infection, bleeding, swelling and pain. Removing too much fat from the body can cause a hazardous state. The body can go into shock due to excessive extraction of fat since this is one of the primary needs of the body to function. The risks associated with the procedure are minimal when compared to other types of surgery. An experienced surgeon in a properly equipped operating room rarely sees serious complications.
Liposuction procedure can not be performed to every patient. Contraindications to liposuction include severe co-morbid conditions (e.g. heart disease, diabetes, morbid obesity, wound healing disorder), excessive cigarette smoking, pregnancy, a history of thromboembolic disease and unrealistic patient expectations.
