What are Veneers?
Veneers are very thin shells of materials which are tooth-coloured; they can be regarded as false teeth. They are placed to the front surface of teeth to improve their cosmetic appearance. Teeth veneers are likened to false fingernails. The most used veneers are porcelain and composite veneers.
Dental Veneers Treatment Options
Porcelain is the most popular veneers type. It is stronger and more durable than composite veneer. Composite veneers are also more prone to staining and do not last as long as porcelain veneers. Another advantage of porcelain veneers is that they result in more natural-looking appearance. Composite veneers may be cheaper than porcelain ones; however, considering that they do not last as long as porcelain veneers and as they may need replacements more often, they could end up costing more in the long run.
How are Dental Veneers Performed
The first part of any dental procedure is the initial consultation and examination, so that the dentist can get a feel for what patient wants and understands his/her needs and concerns. Before veneers are designed, Longevita dentist in Turkey needs to reshape and prepare the front surfaces of patient’s teeth so that they can accommodate the veneers. The first stage is to numb the teeth and gums with a local anaesthetic so that patient does not feel anything during the procedure.
Using a special dental drill tool, dentist shaves off a tiny part of the front surface of teeth. It is important that the amount removed from the front surface of the tooth by the dentist is equal to the thickness of the veneer that will be placed on the tooth. Next, an impression or mould of teeth is taken. Special dental material is placed into patient’s mouth on a tray and pushed into patient’s teeth so that it takes an imprint of his/her teeth. This mould of teeth is then sent to a dental laboratory. The laboratory uses the impression to cast an accurate model of teeth, which is used as a guide to fabricate new veneers. This process is completed within a few days. While patient is waiting for veneers to be fabricated in Turkey, Longevita dentist may fit patient with some temporary veneers to protect prepared teeth.
On second appointment, Longevita dentist fits new veneers to patient’s teeth. First, the dentist may just sit the veneers over teeth to see how they look with patient’s smile, as he/she may need to trim or adjust the veneer. Next, teeth are completely cleaned and the front surfaces are roughened with a special acid gel so that good surface is provided for the dental cement to stick to. Afterwards, the veneers are cemented into place, and a special light is used to activate the dental cement so that it permanently bonds the veneer to the front surface of the tooth. Any excess cement is trimmed away and polished to leave a beautiful and natural-looking restoration.
Results of Dental Veneers
Porcelain veneers will typically last between five and ten years, while composite veneers last a year or two at most. The bottom line is that veneers will eventually need to be replaced. Although veneers are strongly cemented into place, there have been some cases where they get loose and fall off. In such situations, it is important that patients keep hold of their veneer and contact their dentist immediately. To make veneers last longer, patients should follow a good oral hygiene program and visit dentist for check-ups on a regular basis.
Limitations of Dental Veneers
Porcelain veneers are great alternatives of aesthetic procedure for anterior areas to recover the overall look of the smile. Nevertheless, veneers are not the best alternative in certain cases: when very limited amount of enamel exists, severe worn teeth tissue, small clinical crown and severe grinding habits.
Risks of Dental Veneers
Porcelain veneers make it possible to correct visible flaws, such as broken, cracked, chipped or discoloured teeth. Porcelain veneers are natural-looking, durable, and are long-lasting treatments to cosmetic dental imperfections.
It is very important for patients to understand that veneers are irremovable. As the teeth are getting ready for the placement of porcelain veneers, some enamel on the surface of the tooth is detached, therefore making the treatment irreversible. While the placement of veneers is an irreversible process, veneers might sooner or later need to be replaced. Veneers might get worn down over time or they might be damaged unintentionally. Reducing the tooth structure surges possibility of trauma to the tooth. Some patients might experience minor tooth sensitivity for a week or so after the veneers are placed.
Contraindications of Dental Veneers
Porcelain veneers might be contraindicated in patients with tooth wear as a result of bruxism, those with a very tight bite and pre-existing large restorations.
