Lady Gaga’s looks are as renowned as her songs. In her early career, you’d see much less of her face and far more of what she was wearing. Now that all of the accessories have come off, there have been many close-ups of the singer’s bare face. And that’s fueled Lady Gaga’s plastic surgery rumours.
Looking at her before and after pictures though, you can’t help but notice the subtle yet glaring differences. But are those changes from some secret nips and tucks or was the singer really just born this way? Let’s find out.
Who Is Lady Gaga?
You don’t have to be familiar with the noughties’ music scene to know who Lady Gaga is. A Star Is Born and House of Gucci has gotten her a lot of praise, along with nominations for the Academy, BAFTAs, and Golden Globes. But apart from her obvious talent (for singing, acting and songwriting) and the weird dresses, there’s more to the Just Dance hitmaker.
Born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta on 28 March 1986, Lady Gaga is half Italian, or as she likes to say, she’s an “Italian from New York.” The later stage name “Lady Gaga” was reportedly inspired by Queen’s Radio Ga Ga.
After attending the Convent of Sacred Heart (where she was bullied for her looks), she went on to study music at New York University around the age of 17. But even before that, she’d been playing the piano from a very young age and even played an extra in The Sopranos.
Eventually, though, she dropped out of college in 2005 to focus on her music career. She was briefly signed by Def Jam Records but was later dropped and did performances with Lady Starlight.
It wasn’t until she dropped her album The Fame that she finally got her big break. The singles Just Dance, Poker Face, Paparazzi, and LoveGame were all massive hits. The Fame Monster came next in 2009, and that album was also a huge hit.
Amidst tours and release of many other albums like Born This Way and Artpop, she made appearances in films like Machete Kills and Sin City 2 until eventually, she landed a lead role in A Star In Born. For now, the sequel to Joker, due for release in 2024, is in the works for her.
What Plastic Surgeries Is Lady Gaga Rumoured To Have Had?
To alter her appearance, Lady Gaga is believed to have undergone a nose job as well as Botox and fillers. Here are the details:
Rhinoplasty
Lady Gaga’s nose has undergone some noticeable changes over the years. Even though it has always been one of her most prominent facial features, it looks slightly more refined now.
Additionally, she had a small dorsal hump or bump on her nose as well, but that also looks smooth now. However, still, her nose doesn’t look that different if you look at her older photos and compare them with her more recent ones.

In a 2013 interview with Howard Stern, she said, “…I would smoke a bunch of joints and have some drinks and I would be like, ‘Oh, let’s go see my girl’ and we would drive to this strip mall and I would get shot up with a bunch of whatever, Juvederm, and then leave.”
A friend of hers eventually said to her, “Gaga, I love you but if you don’t stop injecting s—t in your face…”
Doesn’t seem like she has really stopped injecting fillers, though. This was especially noticeable in her Grammy 2022 appearance. Not only were her lips looking significantly plumper, but her face also looked more filled up. This includes her cheeks, chin and jaw.
And this isn’t the first time the Bad Romance singer was accused of getting injectables. Over the years, the shape of her face has changed. The chin, which was once “weak” or recessed-looking, is now more protruded (which further helps balance out the nose).
The same goes for her cheeks, which also help make the nose less central and prominent. And it’s quite possible that she had all these things through injectables only.
Botox
When you look at Lady Gaga, you won’t find any wrinkles or fine lines, not really. Her forehead is perfectly smooth. There are no crinkles between her eyebrows or around her eyes. All that could be happening thanks to Botox.
Many said so, especially after her 2021 interview with Graham Norton on BBC. Some even called her Poker Face (after her own song).
Too much Botox can make it difficult for you to make proper facial expressions. And another telltale sign of Botox is that the eyebrows sit a little higher. This happens because of the muscle relaxation from the toxin.
So, Has Lady Gaga Had Plastic Surgery?
Technically, no. Injectables, which Gaga has admitted to getting, aren’t exactly plastic surgery. They’re non-invasive, non-surgical procedures. So, by that measure, Lady Gaga hasn’t had plastic surgeries. Although she probably had many cosmetic treatments over the years.
These likely include both fillers and Botox. And both of them could very well explain the changes in her face. Here, however, you should also note that Gaga’s weight has fluctuated over the years. So, some of the changes could also be attributed to that.
Other than that, her makeup, dresses and hairstyles have also changed quite a bit. With the bangs that she had early on in her career, her nose looked quite prominent. It became less so when she changed her hairstyle.
Has Lady Gaga Admitted To Getting Plastic Surgery?
Lady Gaga has denied going under the knife to alter her appearance. On her alleged surgical nose job, she said, “No. I love my Italian nose.” She further said that if people expected her “to look like a sexpot,” she would do the opposite.
In a 2011 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she said the same. “I have never had plastic surgery, and there are many pop singers who have.” To that, she’d also added, “I think that promoting insecurity in the form of plastic surgery is infinitely more harmful than an artistic expression related to body modification.”
However, she also said, “I am an artist, and I have the ability and the free will to choose the way the world will envision me.” Artist or no artist, your body, your choice.
