Tom Cruise Plastic Surgery: Did It Happen?

The man, the myth, the legend – Tom Cruise epitomises the very essence of “the movies” he adores, a testament to his passion for the craft. He’s a Hollywood star in every sense of the word, so naturally, all eyes are on him almost all of the time. So, when something about him starts to look different, the people and the media take notice.

The rumours of Tom Cruise’s plastic surgery didn’t only just start swirling after his infamous shots at the 2021 baseball game. It’s been speculated for more than a decade now, and Tom’s made his stance on it pretty clear. Still, time and again, his appearance gets the tongues wagging again. So, what’s really happening there? Let’s find out!

Who Is Tom Cruise?

Born on 3rd July 1962, aged 61 at the time of writing, Thomas Cruise Mapother IV is a world-renowned actor who’s been a part of the Hollywood industry for more than 40 years now (and still going strong as ever). With both talent and an undeniably charismatic, boyishly handsome appearance, it seems as though he was destined for success.

In his 1981 debut film, Endless Love, he might’ve slipped under the radar of many, but The Outsiders unmistakably put him on the map. After that, it was one cult classic after another, from Risky Business and Tom Gun to Rain Man, Mission Impossible, and Jerry Maguire, among many others.

According to Forbes, Tom Cruise hasn’t been a part of any “real flop” in almost 30 years. No wonder the action star is often called the last real movie star. His highly anticipated eighth instalment of the Mission Impossible franchise, “Dead Reckoning Part 2,” is slated for release in 2025.

Has Tom Cruise Had Plastic Surgery?

On plastic surgery, Tom Cruise has clearly said: “I haven’t, and I never would,” in a 2012 interview with the Playboy magazine. Regardless, his wrinkle-free and, sometimes, quite swollen and puffy visage has led many people to believe that he’s been dabbling with cosmetic work.

Just the year before, in 2011, The Hollywood Reporter published a story on Tom Cruise meeting with a very famous Brazilian plastic surgeon on his private island, which further made people question whether Tom had really been under the knife. But the actor himself squashed even a future possibility of it by saying that he “never would.”

Although his Jerry Maguire co-star, Cuba Gooding Jr, had something different to say on the matter. In 2016, when asked if Tom had gotten any work, his pal replied, “Absolutely,” as reported in HuffPost.

“I don’t know what he’s had done, but I remember I surprised him at his house one day and he had all of these dots all over his face and I was like, ‘You all right?’ and he goes, ‘I didn’t know you were coming’ and I was like, ‘I can see why,” Cuba said in an episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.

There are different skin rejuvenation treatments that can leave “dots” on the face, such as laser skin resurfacing and microneedling, but these don’t really fall under the umbrella of “plastic surgery.” As for his swollen face, there have been different explanations for that as well, such as a simple weight gain or injectables (which are also not plastic surgery).

Which Cosmetic Treatments Has Tom Cruise Allegedly Had?

Tom Cruise is believed to have had the following procedures:

Rhinoplasty

Also known as a nose job, a rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that’s done for both cosmetic and functional reasons. In Tom’s case, rumours of both have been heard. Some think he’s had the surgery to straighten his nose, which has a slight slanting curve to it.

Other believe that he may have had a deviated septum fixed, also known as a septoplasty, only this doesn’t change the shape of the nose. Looking at his photos, however, his nose looks much the same. It still has a relatively bulbous and droopy tip (which suits him quite well), the flare of the nostrils also looks the same, and he still has a still bent to his nose.

Facelift

In 2021, Tom Cruise’s swollen-looking face drew attention while he was attending a game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Francisco Giants, and some believed that he appeared so because of a facelift. It’s not that a facelift makes the face bloated, but the post-op swelling can do so.

However, even before the game, which took place in October, people had noticed that Tom’s face looked a bit puffy when he was photographed outside a restaurant in Birmingham around two months earlier.

The swelling from a facelift can take 6 to 9 months or even up to a year to go away, but from Tom’s photos, it doesn’t look like there was any change in the overall puffiness of his face between the 2 months. Also, in 2022, all the noticeable signs of ageing, like wrinkles and fine lines, could very “naturally” be seen on his face, so it doesn’t look like he’s had this surgery either.

Botox

Botox is another treatment that helps minimise the signs of ageing, such as wrinkles. And it’s widely speculated that Tom has Botox to look as good as he does even in his 60s. However, to reiterate, Botox is a temporary cosmetic injectable (non-surgical), so it’s not fair to say that this is plastic surgery.

Fillers

If not for a facelift, it’s speculated that dermal fillers are the reason behind Tom’s “pillow face” because too much filler has been injected into his face. It’s possible that he may have opted for this to help with age-related facial volume loss. Although, this too is simply a cosmetic injectable and completely non-surgical.

Conclusion

Tom Cruise’ plastic surgery rumours might just only be that since the actor seems to be showing all the natural signs of ageing. As to how he continues to look so good, his general fitness and healthy diet may be the secret behind that.

Even if Tom did have plastic surgery, at the end of the day, it’s a very personal decision, and no one should feel compelled to talk about it. If you’re considering plastic surgery, just make sure to do your research in finding a board-certified and experienced practitioner.
