We all have insecurities. Perhaps you’ve experienced a life-altering event, such as childbirth or significant weight loss, or have been unhappy with a specific part of your body for as long as you can remember.
The desire to look your best self is only natural, and in many instances, people seek plastic surgery to achieve their desired look.
However, its accessibility can be difficult due to the high price tags in many parts of the world. Fortunately, due to the affordability and high quality of care in Turkey, it is now possible for many to get plastic surgery.
Turkish Plastic Surgery: Why It's So Popular
More than 1.2 million aesthetic procedures — surgical and non-surgical — were performed in Turkey in 2023, according to a survey by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS).
One of the main reasons behind the popularity of plastic surgery in Turkey is cost, which can be 3-5 times less than in the UK or US.
However, aside from the cost, if it weren’t for the excellent results and a plethora of satisfied patients, Turkey wouldn’t have continued to gain popularity as one of the top destinations for medical tourism.
The country boasts some of the most qualified plastic surgeons who are also members of well-respected international organisations, as well as internationally accredited medical facilities that ensure high standards of safety and quality of care for patients.
What Makes Plastic Surgery in Turkey Safe
Since 2000, Turkey has been increasing healthcare expenditure in order to improve the quality of care. There is modern infrastructure in place with state-of-the-art facilities on par with the best in the world.
Additionally, you can find many well-educated plastic surgeons in the country who have to go through a rigorous 5-year training following six years of medical school. The Turkish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (TSPRAS) also gives certification of competence to practitioners — something you can find good plastic surgeons in Turkey to have.
As for the medical facilities, they are registered with and regulated by the Turkish Ministry of Health to ensure the safety of patients and the provision of good-quality care. There are also more than 40 medical organisations accredited by the international standard-setting body Joint Commission International (JCI) in Turkey.
With the right doctor, you can safely undergo plastic surgery anywhere in the world. Although no surgery is without risks, an experienced practitioner will take steps to minimise the risk of post-op complications while ensuring you get the best possible results.
Did you know...
The TSPRAS is the only legal association for plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery in Turkey. You should make sure to check whether your plastic surgeon is a member of this medical association, and you can do so by looking up your surgeon on their “Find a Doctor” portal.

The Process of Getting Plastic Surgery in Turkey
Here’s how you can expect your plastic surgery journey in Istanbul to be with Longevita:
Before Arrival
After you’ve reached out to us, we will listen to your needs, ask you to share pictures of your concerned area, and understand what you’re looking for to prepare a customised treatment plan for you. Following that, your journey will proceed as follows:
Payment of deposit with a 14-day cooling-off period
One day before you travel to Turkey, you will be contacted by your dedicated Longevita representative. They’ll be your point of contact throughout the entire visit and make sure to guide you every step of the way. They’ll be there to answer any questions you have and will also accompany you to all your appointments. As well they will assist you as translators.
Important!
- Make sure to check the requirements for entering Turkey via the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) — citizens of certain countries, including the UK, can be exempt from visa.
- Don’t forget to bring your passport along with you to the medical facility as it will be needed for registration.
- Check the weather when packing, but make sure to bring along comfortable clothes, especially a top with a zipper or buttons — so you can wear them easily after surgery.
Duration of Stay
After you exit the airport, you will find your driver waiting outside. In a private transfer, you will then be taken from the airport to your hotel.
During your stay, your Patient Coordinator will be in touch with you. If there are any changes to your scheduled appointments, they’ll make sure to inform you beforehand. Once you’re at the medical facility:
- Your host will help you with your registration
- You’ll have a blood test to make sure it’s safe for you to undergo the procedure
- You’ll have a consultation with your surgeon
Then, on the following day, you will come in for the surgery itself. Most plastic surgeries are inpatient, so you should expect to stay in the hospital overnight — help will be available to you through nurses on your floor. After you’re discharged, you can get back to your hotel.
You’ll then have a check-up appointment a few days after, in which you’ll get a dressing change, and your surgical area will also be examined. Aftercare instructions will be explained and mailed to you.
Departure
Depending on the type of procedure you have, your duration of stay can vary. But once you’ve flown back home, you will be followed up by our Aftercare team for 12 months. It will also be possible for you to have in-person support during recovery in the UK.
